Homemade Sauerkraut

Another exciting food experiment!!!

This was a surprisingly easy activity with a super tasty result. All I did was:

  • chop up cabbage
  • add salt, caraway seeds, and whey (not the protein powder)
  • pound and mix it for ten minutes- a great arm workout
  • squash it into a jar
  • let it sit for 3 days in a dark area

So simple!

It is a great addition to salads, sandwiches (my favorite), soup, as a side to a meal, or is great just by itself.

Fermenting vegetables is something that is done all over the world in many different cultures. These homemade fermented vegetables became so popular and widespread because they taste great, they are a great way to preserve veggies and are highly nutritious. And are another way to get that important lactobacilli bacteria to help keep our gut healthy!

Yay for fermented vegetables!
